Q1: To begin with, how does it feel to connect with your alma meter. What all is going through your mind right now?
Ans.: It is beautiful feeling, very hard to put into words. As I am able to see few students managing the things, it reminds me of my time when I used to do the same as I was part of managing team. Well, to begin with, I must say that I owe a lot to this college for numerous reasons. But primarily, because of the fact that the kind of culture and discipline ABS has been able to develop here, it really helped me when I entered the workforce. The transition from college to the corporates was pretty smooth as when were made to go through a strict tenure of two years. Trust me, it really made things easy for me to adapt. And for this, I would really like to thank this college.
Q2: We would like to know from you in detail, apart from attending lectures and all, how would you engage yourself in the college. What all activities you would take part in.
Ans.: I must acknowledge that I was pretty good in academics. But that was not something I was content with, I fully realized the importance of taking part in multiple activities. I worked as the coordinator for Athleema, which was a huge success. Also, if my memory serves me better, the Moot Court had just started at my time, it was the first event of that sort and I actively took part in its execution. And here, I would like to request my juniors that please don’t undermine the importance of these events, be that club activities or conferences. As a professional, you cannot succeed without networking with people and these occasions are the best platforms to do so. Also, you learn from these events with being consciously involved in the process of learning. And that is the fun part of it.
Q3: You are associated with Delloite right now. We would request you to please talk in detail what all are your KRAs, what all you do, and what our students need to do if they are eyeing a career like yours.
Ans.: Honestly, I am living my dream at Delloite. Being part of this organization was always a dream, and at present, I am turning this dream into reality. It’s been more than three and a half years now, and trust me this is not an easy job. This is not something which I claim, it is what my seniors acknowledge. But yes, at the same time, they continue to push me for the best. Coming to my role, I work as a senior tax consultant. I look for all the tax compliance, the audit part, estimates and provisions which are quite technical in nature. I assume for non-finance background students, this may be bit difficult to understand, but yes, I this is a core technical role which I am performing right now. Also, I would like to mention that people do believe that tax and all is a monotonous job, you get bored and all, but trust me when you deep dive into the complications, there is a lot to explore. That is the reason coming from finance background, both at UG and PG level, I still do certificate course to be at par with my peers. I actually do implement my learnings into my work.
Q4: CRC is a department which plays the major role in getting our students the best of the opportunities. Can you please tell us how did the guidance received from CRC helped you in your professional journey?
Ans.: CRC is the department I would say that is best at its work. I remember that at the time of placement, I was quite young and naïve in so many things, because of which I couldn’t understand few of the decisions of CRC. With time, it turned out that CRC foresees things beforehand and tells you in advance what would be good for you. Believe me, they are really good at what they do. To my juniors, I would say that have faith in them and comply to their instructions. You are in very safe hands.
Q5: You have interned at PWC. What all were your experiences and learnings from this period.
Ans.: Yes, I interned with PWC, but not related to finance, I was into general consulting. During this time, I quite realized that Big 4 demands a unique kind of commitment and a passion for work which is not confined to working hours. They also take a lot of pride in the quality they deliver to their clients and to maintain that quality, they expect you to work beyond limits. You cannot make errors because the penalties are too big.
